Project transformation: orthographic projection centered at 64°E / 20°N, modest edge shading, a 13° rotation, transparent outer background, and WebP compression. The website adjusts saturation and brightness. No live data or artificial activity points were added. This visual does not indicate NASA affiliation or endorsement.

The source credit is linked directly below the homepage image. The original remains in ignored local inputs; this derived asset is self-hosted in the website.

Additional runtime textures: earth-night-map.webp from the same NASA 2016 composite; earth-day-map.webp from NASA Blue Marble land/ocean/ice composite at https://eoimages.gsfc.nasa.gov/images/imagerecords/57000/57730/land_ocean_ice_2048.png . Both are resampled to 2048×1024 and compressed. Day/night shading uses an approximate UTC solar position and a visitor-local phase, for visual orientation. The geographic pulses are illustrative production-region guides, not measured financial or operational activity.

Material revision: day and night textures are converted in the shader into a restrained green monochrome digital world. Real geographic detail and city-light distribution are retained as visual input; natural blue and brown surface colors are intentionally removed.

## Point-matrix revision

Physical land: Natural Earth 1:110m **physical land** through world-atlas `land-110m.json` (https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/world-atlas@2/land-110m.json ; Natural Earth public-domain physical geography). Only the `land` geometry is decoded. No country, disputed-boundary or administrative geometry is present in this rendering pipeline.

`physical-points-map.png` encodes the physical land mask and the existing NASA 2016 historical city-light raster. `point-world-day.webp` and `point-world-night.webp` are transparent point-only fallback projections. Reproduction script: `scripts/build_point_world.py`; inputs remain under ignored `.local/landing-assets/`.

The scene uses finer land points, coastline emphasis and historical light concentration for visual hierarchy. Industry nodes, leader lines and connecting arcs are illustrative navigation; they are not live production, trade volume, incident intensity or measured financial relationships. No numerical industry magnitude is encoded by point size.

First-paint variants are pre-encoded by scripts/encode_point_world_previews.mjs: 640px compact images for mobile, full preview images for larger screens. Alpha quality is intentionally reduced for the brief static fallback; the live GPU geometry retains full selected density.

## Industrial atlas revision (2026-10-29)

The current map uses separate physical coastlines and deterministic equal-area stochastic land samples. Dateline-crossing rings are unwrapped before rasterization to avoid artificial horizontal land strips. `industry-atlas-map.png` contains land, historical 2016 night lights and smoothed light density. `industry-coasts.json` contains Natural Earth physical coastline arcs. Both are derived from the sources above by `scripts/build_industry_atlas.py`.

Point density also uses editorial cluster extents from `apps/web/lib/industry-atlas.ts`. These extents, point emphasis and local network lines illustrate industrial geography; they are not GDP, production shares, real-time events or a claim of editorial coverage. Current source metadata and future signal schema: `/api/atlas/v1`. No live signals are supplied in this revision. Matching day/night fallback images use stochastic samples rather than the former latitude lattice.
